DEUSTO

DEUSTO

The University of Deusto (www.deusto.es), has over 125 years history, and is currently offering 39 degrees in the domain of engineering, business administration, social sciences, law, arts and health, and 50 masters and 22 Executive programmes. In the domain of engineering, it is worth highlighting computer studies, industrial technologies, industrial electronics and automation. The University of Deusto’s participation in the project is carried out through the multidisciplinary team of the DeustoTech Mobility Unit, one of the research units with the largest volume of projects and publications at DeustoTech.

DeustoTech-Mobility unit (http://mobility.deustotech.eu/), created in 2007, is committed to respond to the current and future needs of society and industry in the field of mobility and transport, relying on the research of new technologies. The activity of the unit focuses on research in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for application in the sector of transport, mobility and logistics. This research can contribute to the development of Intelligent Transport Systems, which are capable of improving the mobility of people and goods, making it more sustainable, smart and comfortable. Identification of optimal logistic locations

DeustoTech-Mobility researches on the field of Artificial Intelligent algorithms focusses on prediction and optimisation, delivering i.e. multimodal route planners, traffic congestion prediction systems; cooperative networks enabling communication from Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V)/ Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) and Vehicle to Vulnerable Road Users (V2VRU), delivering systems focussed on alerts for enhancing safety at road, i.e. systems for assistance in intersections; seamless positioning of people, on this domain many advances has been done on the recent years: activity monitoring of people with MEMs, getting promising results. Their research outcomes have been ranked with the highest score by international journals of high impact, such as, IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing among others.

The role of DEUSTO in the LOGISTAR project is on one side to coordinate the project at both, administrative and technical level and on the other to lead the technical developments of WP4. As project coordinator, it will make sure that the defined work plan is implemented properly and on time. At the technical level DEUSTO will contribute to the development of the (1) optimization of freight operations focussed on planning and scheduling and (2) the optimization of transhipment planning and scheduling in hubs. The group has wide expertise using optimization techniques, especially metaheuristics and fuzzy systems. Finally, DEUSTO will also carry out dissemination activities and foster exploitation discussions and agreements among partners.
