Kick-off meeting of CEF Project “Veneto Intermodal” – 7th May 2019 – Verona

On the 7th of May 2019, the kick-off meeting of CEF Project “Veneto Intermodal” was organised in Verona by Consorzio ZAI Interporto Quadrante Europa. It is a project funded by CEF programme and it is aiming to improve the efficiency of the multimodal transport nodes in Veneto region.

Throughout the conference, many speakers talked about the problems affecting both the Veneto region and the entire transport network and their proposed solutions. Unfortunately, currently many constraints are hampering the improvement of the transport sector. For instance, now the full electric engine cannot replace the internal combustion one for many limits difficult to overcome. The batteries do not last enough to allow long trips. Then, there is a lack of charging stations in Europe. Lastly, the charging time takes a lot of time.

For these reasons, a big player like Codognotto, operating in the road transport, highlighted the importance of ICT solutions to increase the synchromodal concept and to optimize the use of the resources available. Andrea Condotta, the Marketing & Innovation Manager of Codognotto, explained the advantages provided by European projects like LOGISTAR in which the partners are implementing innovative systems to exploit better the current technologies available in the market. He was sure that in the future will be possible to use greener vehicles like the full electric ones but in the meanwhile the optimization of the routes is an essential factor.

The upcoming test phase of LOGISTAR will produce many benefits in the logistics chains involved that will be the proof of the importance of ICT technologies in the transport sector.
